US President Donald Trump reported to Truth Social that he has a proposal for NATO and “around the world”. He will impose new sanctions on Russia, but in return he wants the alliance to stop buying Russian oil.
Donald Trump has a proposal!
Trump has a proposal for NATO:
I am ready to impose serious sanctions on Russia when all NATO countries agree and begin to do the same, and when all NATO countries stop buying oil from Russia.
He added that “the shopping of Russian oil by some was shocking.”
They significantly weaken your negotiating position and tender strength towards Russia
He wrote in the post.
That’s not all: it is of the opinion that the imposition of Customs duties on China in the amount of 50 to 100% will help to end the war in Ukraine, because China has a strong impact on Russia, and “these powerful duties will break this relationship.”
In his post he did not once again mention what happened in Poland: about the Russian drone provocation. It definitely avoids this topic during conversations with the media and in social media.
What is the USA?
Of course, the US wants to force Russia to submission through economic blackmail – the foundation of the Russian state is just trafficking in gas and pus.
For now, his appeal has been met with a positive reception of the European Union. The spokesman for the European Commission Olof Gill said that Europe has done a lot in recent years to limit the import of Russian oil.
We generally agree with the USA as to the final goal
– noted Gill.
We have taken the sharpest possible actions under subsequent sanction packages, hitting the Russian economy where it is most felt to weaken its ability to wage war
– he suggested.
Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, trade between the EU and Russia has fallen. Let’s look at the data: In the first quarter of 2025, the import of goods from Russia was EUR 8.74 billion – compared to 30.58 billion four years ago. At the same time, EU countries still buy oil, nickel, gas, fertilizers, iron and steel from the Kremlin. However, you can see some change here. Four years ago, Russia was the largest supplier of oil products for the EU, in 1 quarter of this year. Her share on the European market has dropped to EUR 1.48 billion. Four years ago it was as much as EUR 14.06 billion.
Of course, Trump is not just about ending the war. Less Russian oil on the market means greater demand for American oil.
