Today will we meet the new head of the SEC? Will it be a probitcoin candidate?

Paul Atkins, previously considered the main candidate to succeed Gary Gensler as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), apparently does not want to take up this position.

Paul Atkins is not interested in an SEC position

Apparently today Donald Trump is to announce who he sees as the head of the SEC. In this context, we talk about Paul Atkins, who would certainly strengthen the blockchain industry. However, the most interested person apparently does not want to take up this position.

As CoinDesk reported, Trump has already talked to Atkins. However, the latter does not want to move to the SEC because he considers working in this Commission unattractive. In his opinion, Gary Gensler messed up so much that it would take a huge amount of work to change it. This would mean that the president-elect must look for someone else.

Paul Atkins is considered by many to be the top choice to head the SEC, including former Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Chris Giancarlo. He served as SEC commissioner under President George W. Bush. Additionally, he supported the digital assets industry, including: since 2017, co-chair of the Token Alliance at the Digital Chamber of Commerce. He is also an advocate of supporting innovation and creating transparent regulations. He is also the founder and CEO of Patomak Global Partners, a company known for comprehensive risk management.

If not Him, then who?

Well, if not Atkins, who will lead the SEC? Also mentioned in this context are lawyer Teresa Goody Guillèn, former acting Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks and former SEC general counsel Robert Stebbins.

A particularly interesting candidate is Guillén, who is also known for her support for the cryptocurrency industry. Brooks, in turn, when he was still in his previous position, pursued a policy that was good for digital assets.

Who will ultimately lead the SEC? We’ll probably find out today. Gensler is to leave office in January 2025. Then the candidacy proposed by Trump (then the sworn-in president) will have to be voted on in Congress, where the Republican Party has the majority, hence it will be a formality.
