The US election campaign is underway. The overall narrative is that the bitcoin community believes that Donald Trump will make “bitcoin great again.” But is Kamala Harris really the threat to the industry that Republicans would like to see?
Will Donald Trump lose the fight for the White House after all?
Let me start by saying that Trump’s campaign is losing its previous momentum. It seemed that the failed attempt on the Republican’s life was the icing on the cake and the former president could be certain of his success. However, the change of candidate in the Democratic camp has changed a lot.
In the US elections, national polls do not count. The most important are the swing states, or “swinging” states. In practice, they (or more precisely: the electoral votes won in them) decide who will be president. According to new polls, in these parts of the US, the winner is now… Kamala Harris.
The above should make us reflect on what a potential Democratic win would mean.
Kamala Harris not as scary as she is painted?
The current vice president’s camp reportedly reached out to leading cryptocurrency firms recently to “reset the strained relationship between the Democratic Party and the industry.” Talks are reportedly underway with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, Circle, and Ripple Labs.
In addition, there are grassroots efforts by some Democratic Party politicians to pressure the party’s authorities to consider changing their approach to the digital assets industry.
Harris was supposed to appear on Bitcoin 2024 as part of the new beginning. Ultimately, that didn’t happen. At the same time, a rumor began circulating online that the Democratic candidate had said in a private conversation that cryptocurrencies were criminals’ money. However, this may be a lie backed up by Trump’s campaign.
Harris has now been publicly defended by CEO Brad Garlinghouse:
Vice President Harris is no stranger to Silicon Valley, and she has an incredible opportunity to deliver a reset on issues critical to U.S. competitiveness (like cryptocurrency regulation).
The businessman also shared another post, which shows that the current vice president may replace Joe Biden’s administration with new people if she wins the election.
Of course, all this is not enough to conclude that Harris will be a pro-cryptocurrency president. However, it shows that the Democratic Party landscape is much more diverse than many analysts have assumed.
