Free Steam played cryptocurrencies. The victims lost about 150,000 USD

It turns out that a free game was available on Steam, which was a tool for stolen cryptocurrencies. Even on such a proven platform you can fall into the trap of hackers!

Steam with the game of criminals

A game was available on Steam Block Blasters. It could be removed from the platform from July 30 to September 21. Initially, there was no indication that it was a virus, but ultimately it turned out that at the end of August an add -on was added to it, which allowed cryptocurrency theft.

Currently, the game is no longer on Steam, a link that Google suggests, directs to the main page of the platform, which suggests that the product has been completely withdrawn.

The case became loud when the Rastalandtv streamer fell victim to the victim of cyber criminals. During his live broadcast, you could see how “Cryptodrainer” steals his digital tokens! It was macabre because Rastalandtv collected the 4th degree malignant tumor for treatment – his viewers supported him in the fight against the disease and paid funds that he was to spend on treatment. Hackers, however, had no mercy.

This story, however, had a happy ending: viewers finally paid money to the streamer’s account, which is enough for his treatment. The question is how many anonymous victims have been effectively and irretrievably robbed.

Blockchain detective Zachxbt discovered that hackers managed to steal as much as USD 150,000 from 261 Steam accounts. This may not – for the “market” of cyber -shots – a dizzying sum, but the whole thing shows how cautious you should be. And even using proven platforms.

The data went to the telegram

The investigation of the game was conducted by Steam users themselves and discovered that the game code was not secured in any way – it was possible to check what individual functions were for, including the one that allowed cryptocurrency theft. The code showed that the stolen data went to the channel on the telegram that the scammers controlled.

She was a bit of an amateur, but it is even more terrifying in the case: it shows that even the use of platforms such as Steam does not guarantee full safety.
