Every third Pole supports a cryptocurrency ban. It’s “scary” – Bitcoin.pl

Key takeaways:

  • Over 33% of Poles support a ban on cryptocurrency trading.
  • 41.1% of respondents have the opposite opinion, and 25% have no opinion.
  • The topic is increasingly entering the political debate.

Cryptocurrencies, until recently perceived mainly as a niche technological innovation, are now becoming the subject of a wide social and political debate. The latest survey conducted by SW Research shows that Poles’ opinions on this issue are strongly divided.

Poles divided on the ban

The study shows that as many as 33.9% of respondents support the introduction of a statutory ban on cryptocurrency trading. 41.1% of respondents have the opposite opinion, while as many as one fourth have no opinion.

Although opponents of the ban constitute the largest group, the very fact that every third Pole is in favor of such a radical solution shows the scale of uncertainty and lack of understanding towards the digital assets market.

Analysis of the results shows clear demographic differences. Opponents of the ban are more often men, people with higher incomes and residents of large cities. These groups are more likely to have contact with the financial market and new technologies.

Przemysław Wesołowski, president of the research agency SW Research, commented for rp.pl:

Men (48%) are more critical of the ban on trading in cryptocurrencies than women (35%). Respondents with primary education (46%) and those whose income exceeds PLN 7,000 net (53%) express this opinion more often than others. Due to the place of residence, the ban on trading in cryptocurrencies is negatively perceived especially by people from the largest cities (57%).

This shows that cryptocurrencies are no longer just a technological or investment issue, but are becoming an element of a broader debate about the role of the state in the economy and control over citizens’ finances.

Harsh comments and concerns about freedom

The survey results were criticized by, among others, publicist Łukasz Warzecha, who described them as “terrifying”. In his opinion, such a high level of support for the ban shows a lack of understanding of the essence of cryptocurrencies and a growing acceptance of limiting economic freedom.

This poll is terrifying. It is true that a minority wants a ban on trading in cryptocurrencies, but in total it is about one third of respondents! This shows that at least one third not only does not understand what cryptocurrencies are and what their meaning is, but also responds enthusiastically to the proposal of another ban, in this case hitting a tool that allows at least partially to go beyond the control of an omnipotent state.

They only have themselves to blame!

In turn, from a study commissioned by the Institute of Market and Social Research IBRiS Republic of Poland shows that the majority of respondents do not want the government to help customers of the bankrupt zondacrypto exchange.

Over 82% of Poles are against state aid for zondacrypto exchange customers. 58.7% believe that investors should be aware of the risks, and for 23.5% of respondents cryptocurrencies are speculation
