Donald Trump Shot. How Is the Cryptocurrency Market Reacting?

There was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump in the United States. The former president was shot during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Donald Trump almost fell victim to an assassination attempt

Trump was speaking at a campaign rally. At one point, he stopped speaking and grabbed his right ear. Gunshots were heard.

Secret Service agents quickly intervened. They shielded Trump. It took him a moment to get up. There were traces of blood on his face. However, he raised his hand in a gesture of triumph.

The services escorted the former president to his car.

We already know that nothing terrible happened to Trump. Unfortunately, one person from the crowd died and two were injured and are in serious condition.

The perpetrator was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crook. A recording can be found online in which he introduces himself and talks about his hatred of the Republican Party. He also quotes the character of the Joker from the movie “The Dark Knight.”

The market is reacting

The MAGA (TRUMP) token price rose by over 30% after the attack. We saw a jump from $6.31 to $10.36. The total market capitalization increased from $293 million to $469 million. And that in less than 45 minutes.

Ethereum-based prediction market Polymarket also shows that the attack – as macabre as it sounds – increases the Republican’s chances of winning, rising from 60% to 68%.

Meanwhile, the chances of incumbent President Joe Biden winning have fallen from 30% to 15% over the same period.

Trump is currently the clear favorite in the prediction market. Biden’s potential “replacement,” Kamala Harris, has only a 9% chance of becoming president, according to Polymarket users.

How has the broader cryptocurrency market reacted? Bitcoin is currently trading at nearly $60,000, up 3.2% in 24 hours. Ether is trading at around $3,200, up 1.8% in 24 hours.

The Fear and Greed Index shows fear (rather than extreme fear).
