Uber investor, Jason Calacanis, wants to build a new, “better Bitcoin”. He believes that layers of 2 cryptocurrency networks can fill any gaps regarding functionality.
Uber investor wants a new Bitcoin
Uber investor caused a sharp reaction of the Bitcoin community after finding that this cryptocurrency will inevitably be replaced by something better.
Bitcoin is something wonderful, but now, when a few giants dominated the market, the right moment has come to “build a better bitcoin” – start the game again
– Jason Calacanis wrote.
He added that “all technologies are replaced over time … and Bitcoin will not be an exception.”
A sharp reaction of the community
The founders and directors of Bitcoin companies quickly reacted with an objection, arguing that Bitcoin would not be replaced. And so, for example, co -founder of Swan Bitcoin, Brady Swenson, said that “victorious protocols are not replaced.”
Bitcoin will never be replaced as a value transfer protocol. The race for the winning protocol of the second layer is still ongoing
he added.
The second co -founder of Swan Bitcoin, Cory Klippsten, wrote:
Bitcoin is a technological revolution that changes all industries, and not following a single technology adoption curve, such as iPad.
The CEO of Lightspark David Markus noticed that the creators of BTC have not yet said the last word:
What is lacking in functionality can be built on L2.
He also warned that “an attempt to build a better Bitcoin is a futile task.”
Wayne Vaughan replied the most interestingly, who indicated that people mistakenly assume that Bitcoin is easy to replace because they see only investment value, application or platform. It’s something more:
I think about Bitcoin as a network. The larger the network becomes, the less likely it is that something else will replace it.
And it is possible that the latter is closest to the truth and related to Metcalfe’s law, which says that the usefulness of the telecommunications network or other ICT system is growing proportionally to the square of the number of devices (users) connected to it. This is how we perceive Bitcoin gains importance and would be difficult to replace today.
This is not the first time Calacanis says something controversial. In 2020, he said that almost all cryptocurrency projects around the world are under the control of “unskilled idiots” or “cheaters” with skills below average.
