The number of installed bitcoin ATMs is growing again. Over the year, it increased by 17.8% to 38,279. The market’s ATH is at 39,541. This is how many bitcoin ATMs were installed in December 2022.
The number of bitcoin machines is growing again
In 2024, 2,564 bitcoin machines were installed. From July 2023 to May 2024, the number of installed devices increased every month. Only from May to June the number of assemblies decreased by 115, but in June there was a strong rebound to the scale of 377 bitcoin machines.
The market leaders are Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip and Athena Bitcoin. Today, they are the leading bitcoin ATM operators, behind 7,543, 5,057 and 2,756 machines, respectively.
Which is not surprising, the most popular cryptocurrency that can be purchased at bitcoin machines is still bitcoin (the name of the device obliges). The next places are bitcoin cash, ether and litecoin.
More than 82% of Bitcoin ATMs are located in the United States (31,986). Canada comes in second, but with a share of only 7.7% (3,028).
Australia, in turn, has seen a rapid increase in the number of installations, which has increased almost 17-fold in the last two years to 1,107 machines. At the current rate of installations, Australia has a chance of surpassing the level of installed ATMs in Europe (1,584 bitomats) in some time.
Other countries with quite a large number of installations are: Spain (313), Poland (279), El Salvador (215), Germany (177) and Hong Kong (169). Romania, Georgia, Switzerland, Austria and New Zealand also have over 100 bitcoin machines.
Crisis of 2023
The above data shows that the market crisis is behind us. In the period from December 2022 to July 2023, the number of installations fell to an 18-month low of 32,764. Coin ATM Radar data suggests that the manufacturer BitAccess contributed to this decline. Its installations fell by 26% from 9,160 in August 2022 to 6,774 in January 2024.
The current market situation allows us to forecast that the upward trend will continue.
