Bitcoin 2024, the world’s largest cryptocurrency conference, is underway. Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and other key politicians and industry figures are expected to attend. What happened on Day 1?
The first day of Bitcoin 2024 is behind us
First, some technical information. Bitcoin 2024 was organized in Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. The event is held at the Music City Center. Over 400 people from the blockchain, finance, and political industries can be heard there. The undisputed star of this year’s edition is Donald Trump. However, there will also be appearances by Michael Saylor from MicroStrategy, Cathie Wood from Ark, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Cynthia Lummis, Senator Bill Hagerty, and Edward Snowden. The full list can be seen on the event website.
The first day of Bitcoin 2024 is behind us. The most interesting part of it was certainly the debate with the participation of, among others, BlackRock expert Robbie Mitchnick. The conversation concerned cryptocurrency ETFs. The head of the digital assets department at BlackRock praised investors who buy units of funds for their tendencies to hodl. He also pointed out how the way of looking at bitcoin has changed:
When you think of bitcoin as an investment asset that has no counterparty, is not dependent on any country, and is ultimately scarce, then you start to see this shift in the way people look at bitcoin as a potential safe haven.
He also added that today, ETF investors are mainly interested in funds based on bitcoin. The company also notes “interest in Ethereum”. What about other cryptocurrencies? In his opinion, the market is not interested in them, which may be a hint as to whether ETFs of other digital assets will appear on the market.
Some controversy may have been sparked by a statement by Bitcoin developer Jimmy Song. He criticized the event organizers for preparing lectures and debates on ETFs.
I hate what they talk about at Bitcoin conferences – banking, ETFs, BlackRock.
In his eyes, “this is not Bitcoin.”
What makes Bitcoin great is freedom, liberty, sovereignty. These are the foundations on which this country (USA) was built. Unfortunately, because of money (fiat), because of the printing of money, we have an administrative state that rules over us and thinks it is better than us.
– he warned.
A breakthrough year?
Michael Saylor of MicroStrategy was also on hand to say that 2024 will go down in history as “the first year of mainstream institutional adoption of bitcoin.” We also learned that he continues to field questions about BTC from CEOs of large public companies and institutions.
He also touched on the fact that two presidential candidates will appear at Bitcoin 2024.
I think bitcoin is doing well regardless. I really can’t imagine any administration in the future that wouldn’t recognize bitcoin
– he said.
Also present at the conference, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gave an interview to the event’s podcast. He admitted that “most of his wealth is in bitcoin.”
Finally, it is worth adding that Kamala Harris was almost there to attend the event. Ultimately, as unofficial media reports say, it was not possible to organize her lecture.
