After another drop below $46,000, bitcoin (BTC) is currently trading at $45,759. Most altcoins are also in the red, with terra (LUNA) leading the pack after a significant double-digit gain.
LUNA beats DOT
Since early December, and especially since the massive crash two weeks ago, altcoins have taken a beating. Ethereum (ETH) went from nearly $4,700 to $3,500 in a single day. And while it has since recovered a lot of its losses, it still sits below $4,000.
On a daily basis, the situation looks a bit more positive for most coins. Binance coin (BNB) is at $518 after a 2.2% increase. Solana (4.5%), Cardano (3%), Ripple (1%), Dogecoin (1%), Polkadot (1%) and Shiba Inu (1%) were also slightly green on Sunday. Unfortunately, most of them have already fallen.
Among large-cap altcoins, terra is doing best. GLOW rose by 14% in one day and approached the level of $ 75. As a result, the asset entered the top ten largest cryptocurrencies in terms of market capitalization, displacing Polkadot (DOT).
Other projects that saw gains over the last 24 hours on Sunday included decred (14%), hedera (12%), arweave (11%), harmony (10%) and cosmos (9%).
The total cryptocurrency market capitalization increased by $50 billion in a single day to over $2.2 trillion.
Bitcoin soars above $46,000
The primary cryptocurrency has also been experiencing a lot of volatility recently. It failed to break through the $51,000 level on December 12, and bears have since pushed it south by a few thousand dollars.
This culminated in two consecutive declines below $46,000, with the last of these occurring on Saturday. However, BTC was intercepted by bulls and rose to $48,000.
However, it was unable to continue its growth and has since retreated by more than $1,000. As a result, its market capitalization still remains below $900 billion.
