Sławomir Mentzen was a guest on Kuba Wojewódzki and Piotr Kędzierski’s podcast. Suddenly, during the conversation, the topic of bitcoin came up.
Sławomir Mentzen at Wojewódzki and Kędzierski
Mentzen is running a pre-election campaign. He is fighting for the presidency. He often appears in the media. He talks about himself (he admitted, for example, that he has Asperger’s syndrome) and his vision of the presidency. In the podcast of Kuba Wojewódzki and Piotr Kędzierski, the politician spoke about cryptocurrencies, among other things.
The topic of bitcoin was introduced by the second journalist. He reminded us that Mentzen himself owns “a bit of crypto.” Then he asked a question with a political dimension:
Can and should countries invest in cryptocurrencies?
The leader of New Hope admitted that countries can do this. An example is El Salvador, which regularly buys BTC.
At this point, Wojewódzki intervened and asked whether it wasn’t too late for such an investment and whether countries shouldn’t have invested capital in BTC many years ago.
I don’t tell anyone what to invest in. There are countries that have cryptocurrencies, mainly because they have seized (coins) from some criminals and then they have to sell them. So there are cases like that
– Mentzen replied.
Then came a clear political declaration that puts the Confederation’s co-leader not far from Donald Trump.
I don’t see any reason why a country, as part of its currency reserve accumulation… that a central bank wouldn’t also buy cryptocurrencies. This seems like an interesting addition to the currency reserve.
– Mentzen stated.
Will Poland start investing in bitcoins?
Mentzen’s show features a cryptocurrency thread. His “presidential” page talks about “liberating cryptocurrencies.”
Of course, today the chances that the National Bank of Poland will start investing in cryptocurrencies are close to zero. The central bank is buying large amounts of gold (even though it is already quite expensive) and is probably afraid of more risky investments.
The idea of the Polish state buying BTC is interesting. Of course, it would be necessary to first solve a few legal and technical issues (how to keep the coins safe).
