All of Poland lives with the KPO scandal, while Internet users and politicians began a real hunt for subsidy scams. Unfortunately, today’s work of editors is mainly based on sensation, not on checking the reliability of sources. A great example of this is a clever action initiated by Cashify. Why was the millionament to cryptocurrencies so quickly and nobody verified it?
Emotions, emotions and emotions again – the basis of modern media
Divide et Impera – the famous Roman political and military maxim, works perfectly in the modern world with such an overloaded information. One hundred years ago, information reached people with a considerable delay. Today, thanks to universal access to the Internet and smartphones – we often have live reports from specific events and places. For this reason, the most valuable currency on the internet and mainstream media has become attention.
Although in the last two centuries we have made incredible technological progress as humanity, our brains have not evolved. We can still accept and assimilate a certain amount of stimuli and information. For this reason, the modern man very strongly filters the messages reaching him, and attention is drawn to those messages that are charged with emotions. That is why it is so easy to spread fake news today, based primarily on the call of specific reactions. The KPO scandal is a flagship example.
A subsidy from KPO to a million in cryptocurrencies, i.e. support that was not
Millions of zlotys for yachts, solariums in pizzerias and potato museum – a scandal with KPO funds and abstract subsidies have been in Polish media for over a week. Editorial colleague Jacek writes about the subject of the entire KPO scandal, in his article, emphasizing that the matter is primarily a very media character.
All because of the map created by Internet users, based on the map shared by the government. On this map you can trace all applications for subsidies from the national reconstruction plan, so from last Thursday portal X flooded the real tsunami of the conclusions that Internet users searched for. The most bizarre conclusions, of course, gained the greatest publicity, but fake graphics imitating such conclusions quickly began to circulate on the web. Many companies said that it was quite an interesting RTM and threw more or less abstract subsidies to the network. One such example is the Cashify cryptocurrency exchange office, which created a facebook graphics depicting a subsidy worth PLN 1 million in the form of a cryptowlaut.
Of course, FEJK began to live his life, and many Internet users, commentators, politicians and the more the media began to duplicate graphics as real. The carousel of the lack of fact-checking has started to such an extent that FEJK from Cashify was shown in the mainstream media and in the social media of politicians.
PlayStation consoles, hydromassage bathtubs and … skeletal expansion? Fujków continued!
FEJK from CASHIFY warmed up X-up discussions, but many companies came up with similar ideas. Przechwity Publishing House (which is part of MTBOOKS) published a Facebook application for a grid of nearly PLN 500,000 at:
Creating an innovative, multi -functional relaxation zone, including the purchase of a technologically advanced PlayStation console and a jacuzzi with hydrotherapy functions as tools supporting reducing publishing stress
Such a fusal about payday loans, who was thrown by Łukasz Sroczyński (creative advisor), gained considerable publicity. The graphics began to live their own lives and was reproduced by many politicians, journalists and political activists.
Finally, a light pinch of humor, because on portal X there was also a conclusion for skeletal expansion. Wait, what? Well, this is a reference to the cult Heroes of Might and Magic III strategy game today from 1999.
Fact-checking the only form of protection against disinformation!
In a world dominated by social media and emotional messages, it is not important to verify the information that comes to us. Of course, it is understandable that no one has enough time to check every message that reaches it in the network in several different places. Nevertheless, if you get to the extreme emotions of the headlines and posts on current topics, it is worth passing them through a verification sieve.
The KPO scandal and the ingenious pipe from Cashifa show one thing – Dyor works not only in the case of cryptocurrency projects, but also our daily lives. In the era of Genai tools, making your own research should enter everyone in the blood, so as not to congratulate the beautiful cottage of the sadden bakery employee;)
