Nvidia’s CEO claims that the cure for AI threats is AI

Artificial intelligence means not only productivity and development, but also an increase in threats. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, says you have to fight fire with fire. Huang is betting on artificial intelligence as the key to solving problems related to AI abuse. During a speech at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington on September 27, Huang emphasized that only AI can effectively counter the threats generated by other artificial intelligence models, especially in the context of disinformation.

AI and disinformation – according to Nvidia’s CEO, AI is the only one

Huang said artificial intelligence can generate false data at extremely high speeds, making countering this fraud using traditional methods ineffective. A perfect example of this is the wave of fake news flooding social media, which engages users not only with content, but also with photorealistic-looking graphics or videos. Nvidia’s CEO says only technology with similar capabilities can monitor and respond to such situations in real time. Huang compared this to evolving cybersecurity practices, where the development of new tools is constant to stay ahead of cyber threats.

Will artificial intelligence influence the US presidential elections?

As the U.S. federal election approaches, concerns about AI being used to spread disinformation are growing. According to research by the Pew Research Center, almost 60% of Americans express strong concern about the possibility that artificial intelligence will be used to create false information about candidates.

Nvidia’s CEO stressed that governments should actively implement AI rather than just trying to regulate its use, suggesting building AI supercomputers for government agencies such as the Department of Energy and Defense. This does not change the fact that in the near future specific parties may use genAI tools to effectively manipulate public opinion and influence elections in the most geopolitically important countries in the world.

AI teaching AI – the future of technology

One of the key points of the Nvidia CEO’s speech was that in the future, AI models will increasingly learn from each other. As he noted, artificial intelligence will use other AI models to process huge amounts of data, which in turn will increase energy demand. Current data centers already consume about 1.5% of global electricity, and in the future this figure may increase up to 20 times. To address this challenge, Nvidia’s CEO suggested that data centers could be built in places where there is excess energy that is difficult to transport, such as remote locations with excess renewable energy.

Returning to the topic of AI training AI, according to leaks from OpenAI, the latest Strawberry model (recently revealed o1) was used to train an even newer model with the operational name Orion. All this to make the information processing process as effective as possible – both in terms of resources (electricity) and computing power. This brings us to the edge of a vision where machines teach machines. The vision presented in many sci-fi films and novels can be disturbing.

AI is the guardian, threat and future of humanity

Huang’s vision shows that artificial intelligence is becoming both a threat and the key to our own security. This is quite a utopian vision, but it is impossible not to agree with the CEO of Nvidia. The amount of content generated by AI is now so large that only the use of AI can help combat fake news created in this way.

As AI evolves at an alarming rate, there is a need for innovative solutions that can predict, monitor and respond to threats generated by these same technologies. Of course, the words of the man behind the corporation partly responsible for the genAI boom may seem biased, but it is worth noting that artificial intelligence technology will definitely stay with us. That is why it is so important to prepare solutions today, when we are still able to tame the threats in any way. The dead internet theory, i.e. the assumption that on the Internet AI creates content that is checked and commented on by AI, is no longer a conspiracy theory and is starting to describe our reality more and more precisely.
