Deputy commander of the drone battalion Volodymyr “Roland” in an interview in Polsat News stated that the current war between Russia and Ukraine is a new type of conflict in which new strategies and weapons are important.
Robot war?
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, there has been debate about whether we have entered an era of a new type of armed conflict. Initially, there were many indications that this was not the case, as the fighting behind our eastern border resembled that of World War II. However, today we are already talking about a drone war.
In an interview with Polsat News, the deputy commander of the drone battalion, Volodymyr “Roland”, said that “not everyone realizes what has changed, but everything has changed.” He meant how military operations are conducted.
If before we saw wars fought on the fronts: huge armies from sea to sea, long front lines, trenches, fortifications, huge numbers of infantry – now none of this exists anymore. There is no longer any point in creating defense lines, expanding fortifications, placing infantry in them and fighting with infantry in the way they fought before. There are not enough infantry for such a war
– he convinced journalists.
And in fact, for centuries wars were fought pointwise – armies were led through hostile terrain and met on the battlefield – at one point. Then, during World War I, the point was replaced by a line, specifically a front line. Today, fields are the war zone – drones and missiles have eliminated all limitations.
As an expert from Ukraine pointed out, today there is no longer any point in wasting resources on large-scale armored offensives that we know from World War II. Tanks are too slow and vulnerable to drone attacks. In his opinion, the offensive operations of 2022 in Ukraine will go down in history as the last actions of this type.
I don’t think anyone will be able to replicate something like that because everything is controlled by drones now. Currently, any number of vehicles or tanks can be destroyed by soldiers using drones. The war is fought in a completely different way now
– summed up “Roland”.
Economics, stupid!
It’s not just about the effectiveness of drone attacks on tanks, but about the costs. Drone production is cheap.
The most important thing is to keep costs low – so that we can compete on price. This war will be won by the one who produces weapons on the largest possible scale. A military with expensive equipment and a large number of trained infantry will not be the strongest in this war. The winner will be the one who is more creative, mobile and clever, and has a large number of cheaply produced weapons at his disposal
– added “Roland”.
However, this conflicts with the purchases made by the Polish army. In addition, the Ukrainian military officer doubts that NATO is even aware that the war has changed.
The global situation remains tense, which will continue to impact financial markets for months and years to come. They are growing for now, but mainly because the conflict is stuck in Ukraine. Any attempts at escalation may hit cryptocurrencies at some point.
