Is Bitcoin creator Peter Todd from Bitcoin Core? HBO answers this question affirmatively in its new documentary about cryptocurrency.
HBO knows who Satoshi Nakamoto is?
HBO has prepared a documentary Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery HBO station. The station had already promoted it, announcing that it would reveal who Satoshi Nakamoto was. It was supposed to be a bomb, but what we got was… a cap.
The thesis that Todd created Bitcoin is – to put it mildly – not very stable. In the video he says:
Well, yes, I am Satoshi Nakamoto.
But this is probably irony or… a reference to the famous cryptocurrency slogan, which means that the entire community is behind Bitcoin as a project.
Todd himself has already denied HBO’s revelations. On X wrote:
I am not Satoshi.
What’s more, the most interested person had already joked several times that he was the one who created Bitcoin. If HBO followed suit… Well, it shows that when preparing a new documentary, someone was only looking for cheap sensation.
Staying with Todd for a moment, it is worth adding that he once wrote online that he is “the world’s leading expert in sacrificing your bitcoins.” He was supposed to freeze his resources in the blockchain forever. Nakamoto did the same. But again: it’s still no proof!
Or maybe he is Satoshi!
The wait for the premiere of the HBO documentary has provoked renewed speculation about who was behind BTC from the beginning. The candidacy of Len Sassaman, the “genius child”, appeared. He was a member of the cypherpunk movement, i.e. people who fought for privacy on the Internet. He worked on projects such as: Pretty Good Privacy, GNU Privacy Guard (actually a continuation of the first one, but under a new name) and SaaS Osogato.
Sassaman’s life ended tragically – on July 3, 2011, he committed suicide (two months earlier, Satoshi stopped being active online). However, his wife claims that he could not have been the creator of bitcoin.
In the context of who Satoshi was, Hal Finney, who was Nakamoto’s collaborator (he received the first ever “transfer” in BTC), is also often mentioned. He, in turn, died in 2014 as a result of developing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Who are you, Mr. Satoshi?
We will probably never know the truth about who created BTC. Maybe it’s a good thing after all…
The mystery behind Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity has always intrigued the cryptocurrency community and beyond. (…) A documentary series on a platform such as HBO Max highlights the growing importance of Bitcoin in global finance and culture, which may increase the interest and involvement of new market participants. However, it is important to remember that Bitcoin’s value is rooted in its decentralized nature, and the identity of its founder is ultimately secondary to the potential of the technology
– Gracy Chen, Managing Director at Bitget, told us.
In her opinion, “the appearance of Bitcoin in a mainstream HBO documentary is a very positive signal for the market.”
Bitcoin is no longer just a topic for cryptocurrency enthusiasts, but is moving into the broader public entertainment industry. This exposure is likely to increase adoption and curiosity as more people become aware of Bitcoin’s transformative capabilities.
(…) The more the world gets to know Bitcoin, the more it will move towards decentralized finance, and that is where its (BTC’s) true value lies
