Graocpedia. This is how the artificial intelligence competition for Wikipedia will be called. Elon Musk wants to fight the scourge of today’s network, i.e. fake news. And of course, in the style of Musk, there were strong words: the new platform is to be the answer to “false” and “half -truths” dominant on the internet. Is it even possible in the era of Gena?
Grokipedia – version 0.1 on the way
In the Sunday post on X Musk he confirmed that “version 0.1 of the early beta” of the Gracipedia project will be made available in the next two weeks. This is a response to the growing interest in the project, which he first announced on September 30, promising “massive improvement” in relation to Wikipedia.
Interestingly, technical details have been shrouded in secret for now. It is known, however, that Graokipedia is to be “an open repository of knowledge” (Open Source), which sounds promising – at least theoretically. Musk does not hide that the project is “an indispensable step towards the target of Xai, which is understanding the universe.” It is worth recalling that Musk in 2022/2023 after the expansion of OpenAI and the popularization of ChatugPT 3.5, first warned about AI … to later buy huge amounts of H100 chips, open Xai and announce the creation of grocked.
The idea was born … live during a podcast
Graocpedia, and the story of its creation is quite funny. The concept germinated during the September summit organized by The All-in Podcast. Musk then explained the panel, like Grok (AI from XAI) scans various sources: Wikipedia posts, documents, PDF files to verify the truth of information. The system is to assess whether the data is real, partly true, false, or maybe they lack significant details.
Then the grok is to rewrite this information to convey what he considers as “full truth”. In response, the co -host of David Sacks suggested to Musk to create “Graocpedia” and offered it as a service. Musk replied that he would “talk to the band.” And he talked.
Long -term war with Wikipedia
It’s no secret that Musk has been on the stump with Wikipedia for years. Tesla’s co -founder repeatedly criticized the platform, accusing her disseminating disinformation, leftist editorial prejudices and censorship of certain content.
In October 2023, Musk even moved to the fact that he offered Wikipedia billion USD … provided that he changed its name to “Dikipedia”. The proposal was to be a mockery of alleged ideological distortions of the platform, which at that time conducted a fundraising campaign. Recently, last week, Musk returned to this joke, commenting on the investor’s entry Chamatha Plhapitiya, who stated that “Wikipedia is a mass psychological operation.”
Controversy around Wikipedia
I must admit that Wikipedia, despite the huge utility, is not free of controversy. Due to the crowdsourcing nature of the platform (where everyone can edit content), many disputes have arisen over the years, which … ironically, are documented on Wikipedia itself.
Recently, the topic has returned to Vocabula due to the interview with Tucker Carlson with Larry Sanger, a co -founder of Wikipedia, who left the project in 2002. Sanger, in an interview with September 30, sharply criticized the policy of approving and blocking sources on the platform. He claimed, among others, that:
A serious academic encyclopedia of Christianity is not allowed on Wikipedia (…) There is a whole army of administrators – hundreds of people – who constantly block users with whom they have ideological disputes with
Xai guarding freedom of speech and truth on the web?
Today’s internet is endless terabytes of all kinds of information, among which (especially on social media) Clickbaites and fake news are best spread. The greater the emotions causes the headline, the greater the chance of catching users on such a pipe. What’s more, such actions are very often deliberate disinformation and serve as an element of fighting in cyberspace. Fake news is therefore a big problem, which with the creation of Genai only gaining strength.
Today, creating a realistic -looking deep fake is not a matter of skill and a long “sitting” over the final effect. AI and Deep Fake tools are enough, it is ready in 5 minutes. Graocpedia (if he actually sees the light of day in two weeks), it will be a great opportunity to see if Musk’s promises about “fighting fake news” will translate into real quality and impartiality of content.
In a world dominated by disinformation and ideological and political scuffles, we need reliable sources of information. The question is, will AI managed by Elon Musk be what we are looking for? We will find out in two weeks. And of course, wait for the review of Grokipedia on our portal!
