The media reached the proposal of Donald Trump regarding the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which is mainly based on blockchain technology and tokenization. Only that everything caused a lot of controversy. Why?
Gaza Zone, a long -term conflict
After World War II, in Palestine at the time, the land was divided: some of them hit the hands of Jews, some of the Arabs. In 1948, the State of Israel was established, which provoked a war with the Arab countries. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians escaped or were expelled from their homes. Since then, they have demanded their own state and compensation for displacement.
And here the Gaza Zone appears, a very small area (about 360 km2), where slightly more than 2 million people live today. It is controlled by Hamas-Palestinian Political and Military Organization, considered by Israel, USA and the EU to be terrorist. This provoked the blockade of the region, which Israel is led by – limits or even prevents the flow of goods and people from flowing, arguing it with its safety. Only that for residents this means great economic and humanitarian difficulties.
In order not to fall into one extreme, visible in the Polish media – full support for Palestinians – it is worth adding that in the background is the war of Israel with Hamas. It is worth recalling that the fighters of the latter made a bold and successful attack on the Jewish state in 2023. Israel has been responsible for gauze attacks since then, she firefighting people who want to get to food transports, and destroys Hamas infrastructure. In practice, civilians are mainly victims.
The conflict seems unsolvable: Israel is afraid that giving full control over Palestinian gauze will lead to even greater attacks and reduce its safety, and individual countries support either Israel or Palestinians, which complicates the matter – the geopolitical interests of powers enter everything.
Trump the savior?
And now, Donald Trump is trying to enter the stage all over the white, revealed by the media a post -war plan for Gaza, to which The Washington Post reached, assumes the placement of land ownership acts in gas on … blockchain. Earthly owners in the region would be asked to transfer ownership of the Trusteach Fund supported by the US and in exchange for digital tokens for them. Each token could be replaced with cash or a residential premises in a planned “Intelligent City”. In addition, temporarily resettled families would receive for four years $ 5,000 per month for paying rent and food. In a decade they could return to the rebuilt gauze.
In addition, gas tokens could be turned on the stock exchange. Proponents of the implementation of the plan describe it as a “innovative financing model”, using a blockchain based register. This would be the first example of tokenization of real estate on such a scale.
Digital Trust
Now I will go into details. Two plans were actually created. First, Great Trustthis is the work of Israeli businessmen cooperating with the Boston Consulting Group. This group wants to create a “investment zone with low taxes and based on blockchain.” Stokenized Gaza would be a “digital trust”. As I described above, Gaza plots would be tokenized and transferable in the free market.
An alternative is Great Trust – Apparently closer to the people of Trump and Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Politics arise here: it is the United States that would manage gauze. And here “gauze is toxhen, using blockchain”, the plots become tokens. Each displacement would be awarded to the token for his property, which could then be replaced with an apartment.
Both plans are similar, although in the second larger power over the region would be exercised by the US, which seems to be a wise idea because it would protect the region.
“Earth theft”
The problem is that organizations dealing with civic rights, in particular the Palestinian population, claim that this is a form of “theft of land”.
The Council of American-Islamic Relations (Cair), the American Muslim organization, warns that the plan really means “taking over gas and mass theft of Palestinian region using the system of digital tokens.” He considers the project “morally repulsive and illegal in the light of international law.” It is in her eyes a “war crime”.
Critics add that the inhabitants of Gaza wants to stay in the region, not move out. Even for a few years. However, this can be shortened to one: the Muslim side simply does not trust both the USA and Israel. Given the history of the region, it is hardly surprising.
On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine a different conflict solution. If Tel-Aviv continues his policy towards the Muslim population in Gaza, everything will end with the biological annihilation of the latter. The Islamic community does not have enough strength to save the zone, because Israel has an ally in the USA. The Americans will not abandon, in turn, Tel-Fiwiw, because they need their “aircraft carrier” in the Middle East. We saw this this year, when Trump during the conflict of Israel with Iran stood on the side of the first, and even at some point risked the escalation of the conflict.
Legal problem
Experts also emphasize that commercial tokenization of land would be very difficult in practice, if only because we are talking about the region de facto covered by war. Added to this are legal issues: how to “put” in the law of tokens representing the Palestinian land? Some say that these would qualify as securities, at least in accordance with American law. Even the commissioner Sec Hester Peirce, open to technological innovations, warns that “tokenized securities are still securities.”
In addition, you would have to involve some cryptocurrency exchange or investment fund. For now, no such entity has signaled support for the idea. Not only that, you would have to generate fluidity and institutional demand for tokens. How to do this if there are more interesting assets on the market, and Gaza tokens would mean a huge political risk and human rights? It’s a bit like investing in a region where war is still going on. It cannot be ruled out that even Hamas will continue his guerrilla war and make it difficult to rebuild the zone, recognizing the project as expropriation of the local population. Not to mention how poorly the displacement of people from Gaza would look like. I will emphasize it again: not everyone wants to escape from there!
Project for Ukraine?
The Gaza tokenization project is unlikely to be implemented, but this does not change the fact that the market for toxled assets from the real world is gaining popularity. This is because it can revolutionize the rotation of apartments, land, works of art and other physical assets. It is worth adding that the Middle East concept could be used elsewhere: e.g. in post -war Ukraine or in other places on the globe, where capital is needed to rebuild houses and apartments.
