Donald Trump said that the US has no plans to withdraw troops from Europe, but can “relocate” them. He added that member states should consider “expelling” Spain from the Alliance.
Trump talks about European security
Donald Trump provided some important information at a meeting at the White House with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. Firstly, the US intends to buy 11 icebreakers from the Finns, which will probably be used in the Arctic, where several countries are fighting for influence. Additionally, during the press conference, Trump was asked whether he planned to withdraw US troops from Europe.
No, but we can move some
– he replied, which may be a foreshadowing of what the media has already reported – he is taking some soldiers from the Baltic countries and Romania.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth admitted that the US is currently analyzing where its forces are and what it should do with them in the near future.
“Maybe you should kick him out of NATO.”
Suddenly, Trump came on about one of the most unruly NATO countries – Spain. He said that perhaps it should be considered expelling it from the Alliance because it does not spend enough on defense.
They have no argument not to do it (…). Maybe you should, honestly, kick them out of NATO
– he said.
The point is that Spain does not want to spend 5% of GDP on its army. The country’s government claims that spending at the level of 2.1% is sufficient to meet the Alliance’s goals. The truth, however, is that Madrid does not feel threatened by Russia and therefore sees no point in arming itself.
Regarding the eastern flank, Trump confirmed that the US would “vigorously” defend Finland in the event of an attack from Russia. However, he added that he doubted that Moscow would dare to take such a step.
We sell a lot of NATO weapons. And most of it, I assume, goes to Ukraine
– he added. Additionally, he announced that he may impose new sanctions on Russia.
The current geopolitical situation is not good for cryptocurrencies. If the situation between Russia and NATO continues to escalate, it may end in war. Bitcoin has already survived economic crises, but it is not known how its price will behave during a global conflict.
