The Municipal Police Headquarters in Ostrołęka warns against cryptocurrency fraud. A resident of Ostrołęka County lost approximately PLN 30,000. All because of a “company” that was supposed to help him invest in digital assets.
Cryptocurrency scam
A resident of Ostrołęka County reported to the police. He reported that he had been robbed. It all started when he came across an advertisement on the Internet about investing in cryptocurrencies on one of the investment platforms. He provided his details and was contacted by a woman and then a man who introduced themselves as investment brokers.
During telephone conversations, they assured the injured party that they would help him invest and achieve high profits. In accordance with their instructions, the man transferred money several times to the accounts they indicated, treating them as funds intended for investments
On February 25, the man logged into his account and saw that it had been “cleared” of money – he had lost nearly PLN 30,000. There are many indications that he transferred funds to the accounts of fraudsters who did not invest even a penny in cryptocurrencies. They simply took advantage of the popularity of bitcoin to organize a BLIK scam.
The proceedings in this case are being conducted by police officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Ostrołęka.
How not to fall for criminals?
The police are now appealing to residents to be careful when making various types of investments on the Internet.
If we do not have knowledge and experience in this area, we should not take such actions. Let’s not trust people who present themselves as financial advisors or brokers and assure us that they will trade money on our behalf, guaranteeing quick and high profits.
Please also remember not to install remote desktop applications on your computer or phone at the request of unknown people. Thanks to such programs, fraudsters can gain access to our devices and bank accounts
– he adds.
It is also worth remembering that there is no such thing as easy and reliable investment. And this is exactly the vision that fraudsters try to present to their victims.
If there are offers on the Internet to quickly and easily multiply your money or attractive investments in various companies or projects, you should be especially careful. Very often, there are scammers behind such offers. Our inattention and too much trust in strangers can cause us to lose money accumulated over many years, often representing the achievements of our entire life.
