Tokenization is gaining momentum. RWAs are approaching the USD 40 billion barrier – Bitcoin.pl

Key takeaways:

  • The RWA market reached USD 38.17 billion TVL and is only USD 1.83 billion away from crossing the USD 40 billion barrier.
  • Tokenized US treasury bonds dominate the sector ($16.21 billion), and the leader is Circle USYC with approximately USD 3 billion.
  • The number of investors is growing rapidly (+56% m/m to 1.7 million), confirming the growing adoption and importance of RWA in finance.

The tokenized real world assets (RWA) market has reached another important milestone. The latest data from rwa.xyz shows that the total value of blocked funds (TVL) in this sector exceeded USD 38 billion, reaching USD 38.17 billion on August 9. This means that there is only USD 1.83 billion short of the symbolic barrier of USD 40 billion. The dynamic growth confirms the growing importance of tokenization in connecting the world of traditional finance (TradFi) with blockchain technology.

RWA is getting closer to the financial mainstream

Asset tokenization involves transferring real financial instruments and physical goods to the blockchain in the form of digital tokens. Thanks to this, investors can gain access to fractional shares in assets such as bonds, real estate or precious metals without the need to use traditional intermediaries.

Today, the sector includes a wide range of instruments: from treasury bonds and corporate loans, through private equity, to raw materials and shares. The data also shows a rapid influx of new users – within a month, the number of RWA holders increased by over 56%, reaching 1.7 million. The largest market share is held by tokenized US treasury bonds, whose value reaches USD 16.21 billion. This is by far the largest segment of the entire RWA sector.

The leaders include:

  • Circle USYC: approx. USD 3 billion,
  • BlackRock BUIDL: USD 2.68 billion,
  • Ondo US Dollar Yield: USD 2.14 billion,
  • Franklin Templeton (iBENJI): $1.72 billion.

The competition for dominance in this segment is becoming more and more intense, as shown by the growing interest of financial institutions in debt tokenization.

However, not all market segments are developing at the same pace. Tokenized non-US government debt declined 7.78% to $1.28 billion. In turn, the sector of tokenized credit instruments is growing – its value has increased to USD 7.3 billion and the number of assets has exceeded 2.5 thousand. Syrup USDC remains the leader in this category.

The tokenized equities segment shows mixed signals. Although the value increased to USD 2.37 billion, what stands out is the sharp increase in transaction volume – by as much as 138% month-on-month. At the same time, the number of active addresses has decreased, which may suggest concentration of activity among larger players.

In turn, tokenized raw materials are seeing a clear recovery. Their value reaches USD 4.88 billion, and the number of active users is growing dynamically. Tether Gold dominates this category and remains the market leader.

USD 40 billion on the horizon

Approaching the level of USD 40 billion shows that tokenization of assets is no longer a niche trend, but is becoming an integral part of the global financial system. If the current dynamics continue, the RWA sector may cross another symbolic threshold in the coming weeks – which will further strengthen its position as one of the fastest growing areas of the cryptocurrency market.
