Another bidding of cryptocurrencies in Poland is behind us. This time, however, not BTC was auctioned. Our editors received a report from this event of Jakub Bartoszek, Cashify CEO.
Auction of cryptocurrencies in Łomża
On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, another public bidding of cryptocurrencies took place in the first tax office in Łomża. It was about funds that were taken over by state authorities. This time it was not about BTC, but cryptocurrencies worth almost PLN 70,000. They were Tethery, BNB and MATIC.
Cryptocurrencies were secured using the Ledger hardware portfolio, which was configured by the prosecutor’s office. A total of nine entities took the fight for cryptocurrencies, including Jakub Bartoszek, Cashify CEO, and cryptocurrency exchange networks. And he won the auction. He bought assets for just over PLN 64,000. Thanks to his relationship, we know what the auction looked like “from the kitchen”:
The auctioned cryptocurrencies came from one of the loud investigations in recent months conducted by the central cybercrime (CBZC) and District Prosecutor’s Office in Łomża. The case concerned an organized criminal group with at least 26 people who heard a total of over 220 allegations. The group operated with a flourish, used false sales offers, impersonated popular services and conducted extensive SMS campaigns extorting money. So these were not accidental funds, but “digital evidence”, which now returned to the market in a transparent and open procedure.
The one who won
Bartoszek bid cryptocurrency packages:
The first of the packages was auctioned for 53 thousand. PLN, so practically at a market price. In turn, I was able to get the second package exactly for the starting price and here we have already obtained profit, because we paid about 3,000. PLN less than the market value.
After the formal part, I went with a representative of the Tax Office to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łomża, where in the presence of the prosecutor, accountant and CBZC officers, a professional process of transferring cryptocurrencies took place. And what is worth marking – it was not symbolic sales, but a technically correctly carried out transfer, using the Ledger hardware portfolio, configured by the prosecutor’s office.
In his opinion, the auction was carried out in a very professional way:
Particular recognition is due to the prosecutor conducting the case and CBZC officers as a high level of knowledge and competence. During the whole process, they showed excellent discernment in the technical requirements of blockchain, including the awareness of transaction fees for “Gas Fee” on individual networks. This shows that Polish services work professionally and fully understand what modern financial technologies are.
